HOUSTON ‒ January 30, 2023 ‒ Silleno LLP (“Silleno”) has selected Univation Technologies’ UNIPOL™ PE Process for a world-scale reactor line of 625,000 tons per annum for their Kazakhstani Polyethylene Project. The new reactor line will be located at Silleno’s manufacturing facility situated at the integrated gas chemical complex in Atyrau oblast, Kazakhstan.
The basis for Silleno’s agreement with Univation includes the UNIPOL™ PE Process Technology platform, the associated Univation polymerization catalysts, and provides for the production of 625,000 tons per annum of polyethylene. Silleno’s selection of the UNIPOL™ PE Process allows the production of a wide range of high-volume as well as premium polyethylene grades while enabling maximum flexibility to supply highly competitive end-use products for both domestic consumption as well as export markets. The agreement includes the supply of Univation’s polyethylene polymerization catalyst systems including UCAT™ B Catalyst and UCAT™ J Catalyst. The combined capability of these two catalyst systems enables the coverage of large-volume HDPE blow molding, LLDPE film, and HDPE injection molding grades. Silleno has further elected to utilize Univation’s HDPE catalyst platforms including ACCLAIM™ Unimodal HDPE Technology to manufacture large part blow molding grades, unimodal HDPE films, and various pipe products. Silleno also selected Univation’s advanced PRODIGY™ Bimodal HDPE Technology which enables the production of PE100 pressure pipe, bimodal HDPE blow molding, and bimodal HDPE film grades.
Luis Cirihal, president of Univation Technologies, provided his comments, “Univation fully appreciates the importance of this milestone petrochemical project for the country of Kazakhstan. With Univation’s proven track record of over 50 years in polyethylene technology licensing and successful polyethylene project execution, our team will work closely with the Silleno technical team to provide a complete array of experienced technical support to achieve a successful plant start-up as well as steady-state production from this new world-scale UNIPOL™ PE Plant”. Mr. Cirihal furthered his comments, “In today’s rapidly evolving environment, flexibility is an essential component enabling companies with capabilities to quickly respond to new emerging opportunities in the marketplace. The UNIPOL™ PE Process delivers robust product and process flexibility providing Silleno with broad capabilities for their initial years of production while meeting future needs as well. We welcome this opportunity to closely collaborate with Silleno to deliver high-performance PE product capabilities for their target application areas”.
Zhandos Kairgeldi, General Director for Silleno LLP, added his comments, “A critical objective of this National Company KazMunayGas JSC (parent company of Silleno LLP) investment is to take full advantage of one of Kazakhstan’s native capital assets in the form of natural gas resources, and further increase the value of those assets through conversion into high-demand polyethylene products that are export-ready for our key target markets”. Mr. Kairgeldi continued, “Additionally, Silleno’s Kazakhstani Polyethylene Project serves as a key milestone for the emerging Kazakhstani petrochemical and gas chemical industry while also delivering significant commercial and financial benefits to the Kazakhstani economy. This project also demonstrates Silleno’s firm commitment to a long-term technology partnership with US-based Univation Technologies as our selected polyethylene technology licensor”.
